Your contribution to the optimism playlist?
“Margaritaville” – Jimmy Buffett
Why did you pick this song? What does it do for you?
This song makes me smile every time I hear it. Maybe it’s because it takes me back to a time when we could lie worry-free on a beach in Mexico, slathered with aceite de coco con iodo (coconut oil and iodine), drinking cerveza con limón, and not worrying about anything more important than what to wear to dinner. As soon as Buffett sings the first line, I smile. When he sings, “…searching for my lost shaker of salt,” it’s just such a ridiculous image; now we can’t do that because we’re watching our salt intake! When he comes to, “Some people claim that there’s a wo-man to blame,” I just want to sing at the top of my karaoke voice! And when he says, “But I know it’s my own damn fault,” I can identify, yet I feel he’s telling me to go easy on myself.
