Goal-setting after New Year’s is like joining the gym in January. Certainly a good thing, but wouldn’t it be nice to start the year already lighter, stronger, faster? That’s a running start.
One exercise we use with clients is the start | stop |continue worksheet. Rather than just listing all the awesome new things you’re going to do, create space for that by also taking stock of what you don’t want to do. This will help you determine what to delegate.
The continue category gives you a chance to celebrate. Things that may need a tweak can also fit in this category. Maybe there are some things that are perfect as is. Add them to the list so you can see how much is going right.
Print out this worksheet and keep it on your desk for awhile, adding to it as ideas come to you. As the work ebbs and flows, you’ll likely find things you vowed not to do, and some you wish you could.
You can also set aside time to think through this, but give yourself a few days either way. We often get our best ideas while our brains are busy doing something else.
